Woodbridge 12

12 Unit Condominium — Los Angeles — 2011

Woodbridge 12, is a four story, twelve unit condo project conveniently placed close to Ventura Boulevard in the heart of Los Angeles’ upscale Studio City neighborhood. The project set out to create open living spaces by utilizing an interior garden courtyard, allowing for floor to ceiling windows on opposite sides of every unit. This opened up the floorplan for abundant light at different periods of the day and ventilation from all sides.

The exterior is an exercise in athletic balance, folding together cement panels, sustainable wood, aluminium, and glass into an asymmetric mosaic. The façade also acts as an energy efficient building envelope system by creating an air cavity between the primary structure and the façade panels. A byproduct of design that significantly enhances breathability of the exterior and also allows thermal energy to dissipate through the air cavity instead of being directly absorbed. The interior spaces continue the philosophy of utilizing sustainable, highly efficient materials in ways that create a poetic harmony with the inhabitant and the exterior spaces. Sustainably harvested walnut floors give way to engineered decking along the balconies, and LED lighting floods caesar stone surfaces and porcelain tile in the kitchens and bathrooms. Large sliding glass panels amplify the sense of space and height while allowing for a gentle cross-breeze, again bringing the exterior environment inside.
